Thinnest smartphone in the world Oppo R5 with 4.85MM Thickness Launched

What is the thinnest smartphone? Meet all new ultra thin mobile 'Oppo R5'. It was first launched at Singapore along with Oppo N3 few month back. Oppo N3 was a big success for this Chinese manufacturer. Now it is the India to feel the thickness of R5. But except the thinness we should not expect that R5 have that qualities to stand up in smart phone market at the price range it is being offered. Why? Let us see.

Recently launched Vivo X5 Max beats R5 by simply 0.1mm! Do you believe that! This is the war for thinness. The title also resembles with Vivo by digit '5' in it. Although it just indicate thickness of device.

Display and Camera

The device looks best with it's 5.2 inch 1080 pixels (423 ppi) display. You can click your moments with primary 13 MP camera. At front side there is an 5 MP camera with which you can click a selfie. The phone is blessed with minimal heat built-up feature by which it can stay cool allowing you to shoot a long video and play a 3D game or film on your Oppo.

The display comes with vibrant colours that works good even in sunlight.  The display looks even professionally beautiful with black border around it. The iPhone comes with just 1.2 MP at front and 8 MP at back. The R5 takes this advantage dominate over iPhone 6.

It has 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, USB, GPS and Bluetooth v4.0 in it. There is FM available to entertain us and but there is no 3.5 mm jack for headphones.

It comes with 'Fast Charging Feature'. It has 2000 mAh battery. Battery is not so big for this price range but, you will be happy to know that it charges up to 75% in just half an hour and 5 minutes of charging gives you two hours of talk-time. Technically it is called 'VOOC mini rapid charging'. The battery is non-removable.

Here is quick go through from specs of R5. it is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa core 64bit processor, Adreno 405 GPU as well as 2GB RAM. We can therefore hope that it will perform as fast as HTC One M8. It features Accelerometer, proximity and compass sensors.

The device is 4.85mm thick. This is the right side look.

It has good aesthetic design. After you feel its thinness, you will just tell iPhone to loose some weight! The iPhone 6 is 40% thicker when compared fully. R5 comes in White colour which is currently trending in youth. On back side you will see Oppo logo engraved beautifully. The back is made with non-slippery matte metal.

The metal frame is well chamfered on all corners. There is one power button and volume up and down button which is located at right side of the device. The R5 comes with excellently designed case with window cut-out in it. Through this window you can see current time and notifications.
The Oppo R5 measures 148.9×74.5×4.85mm and weighs just 155 g (5.47oz).

Except the thin body, the device is well engineered to stand against the bending or impact forces. It is made durable and scratch resistant.

It is available for pre-ordering at Rs. 29,900.

So, after compiling all the good points its time for reviewing it with its weaknesses.
  • The first weakness is it's non-removable battery. It's the thickness which made the manufacturers to keep the battery screwed up. The battery should be huge at this range. 2000 mAh battery cannot give a best click.
  • Next comes the headphone jack. As said above it don't come with 3.5mm jack. Its again the fault of making it too thin.
  • The charger is bulkier than normal sized charger.
  • No expandable SD slots. The phone memory is only 16GB. That is less for anyone dealing with huge number of videos and apps.
  • Neither notification light nor NFC.
